Suite à un problème technique intervenu entre le 22 et le 23 mars, nous avons du procéder dans la soirée du 25 mars, à la restauration de la base de données du 24 mars (matinée).

Bonjour,

J'ai constaté sur des traitements lourds avec PostGIS que le potentiel de mon ordinateur n'était pas exploité.

Peut on configurer la mémoire et la part de l'UC utilisée par PosgreSQL?

Oh oui !
C'est meme quasiment un metier a part entiere !
le tuning de bases de données, et de PG.

Le fichier postgresql.conf gere tous ces parametres de conf.
Par defaut, la configuration est RIDICULE pour les machines modernes.  En prod, il faut donc modifier ce fichier pour adapter la conf a la machine.
Bcp de ces parametres peuvent etre surchargés au moment de la requete, ce qui tres pratique, mais surtout tres puissant: un param pour un type de requete, un autre pour un autre type.

Il y a pleins de ressources sur le net pour tuner PG, en fonction du type de traitement a faire.
Un regle simple donnée par M Ramsey: 15% pour l'OS, 65% pour les shared buffers, 20% pour *_mem.

Je vous invite a bien comprendre les qq parametres importants de ce fichier: on peut vite faire n'importe quoi et mettre des valeurs contre productives.

Enfin, un mot sur l'UC: Postgresql n'est pas multithread: une seule requete utilise un seul thread, soit un coeur sur un cpu moderne.
Pour optimiser a fond PG, il faut faire en sorte de lancer plusieurs requetes, qui elles utiliseront chacune une thread. Ou alors utiliser des solutions de parallelisation de requetes , comme Stado.

Pouvez vous m'aider à configurer Pgsql? Je ne vois pas de différence notable malgré les changements effectués.
