wrldTZ_TAB

The maps in MapInfo TAB format that are included in this zip file are simple translations from those contained in the wrldTZ.zip distributed by Manifold Net Ltd http://www.manifold.net originally published in Manifold System GIS format and provided under the Free Software Foundation's General Public License (GPL). (c) 2000 Manifold Net Ltd. (see the original wrldTZ_readme.txt file in the zip archive)

There are 3 basic maps

wrldTZA is the main file with all the country polygons and the associated data
wrldTZl contains essentially a graticule
wrldTZp regroups all the world main cities point information and some reference points such as the nodes of the day time line.

After having converted these files to MapInfo native format, I have eliminated all the columns without data and refined the width of the remaining columns to fit best the existing data. Browsers can be now easily consulted. There were some strange data in the "offset" column of the main table that I also cleaned (there were "ÿ" mixed with the values!!!)

I have noticed that there is no local summer offset entered for North America when we all know around here that there are clock changes twice a year!

I have derived two maps that I colored to the best of my abilities (sorry if you do not agree with my choice of colors) and for each one a "cover" map to act as a legend.

wrldTZAcol is the map of the "normal" time based on the values of the offset column.
wrldTZAsum is the map for the "local summer" time that may not start/end the same day for all the countries.
The corresponding "covers" are offset and offset_sum.

Two WOR, GMToffset_normaltime.wor and GMToffset_localsummer.wor, can be used to display these maps.

These maps are best viewed with a maximum width window and "view entire layer". The "legend" part becomes screwed up if one zooms in, or may be out the scope of the map.
