PICKLANG PROJECT

How to use PICKLANG.MBX

1 - preparation before running

The picklang.MBX should be accompanied by two files to be installed in the same directory as the MBX : picklang.INI and language.INI
PICKLANG.INI contains the language messages to run the application. As it is MLC_INI compliant, you can add your own language to have menus and messages use it. For that operation, read MLC_INI_TR_EN.RTF where all is explained. If you add a language, do not forget to send the INI file to the author so he can include it for distribution.

PICKLANG.INI holds the coded sentences in various languages (see List of recognized languages below). It has a very simple structure, first a [general] block with the number of languages in the file, then for each language a [LanguageN] block with its name, the sentence in plain text (sometimes, it may not be possible to recognize what it is because of an incompatibility between language platforms, but this information is a simple help for identification and is not used by the procedure), and the coded string.
[General]
Languages="6"

[Language1]
Name="English"
Sentence="User-defined error:"
Sent.Code="chr$(85)+chr$(115)+chr$(101)+chr$(114)+chr$(45)+chr$(100)+chr$(101)+chr$(102)+chr$(105)+chr$(110)+chr$(101)+chr$(100)+chr$(32)+chr$(101)+chr$(114)+chr$(114)+chr$(111)+chr$(114)+chr$(58)"
In case one INI file is missing (or both), the MBX will generate one (or both) but for English only. You can treat the new one(s) without any restrictions.

2 - running PickLang

When loaded, "Detect Language" is in the TOOLs menu (mi=>4.5) or in the main menu bar (MI<4.5). Use "Start detecting language". If your MI language is already know (i.e. it is in the LANGUAGE.INI file), a message will tell you. If not, it will ask you if you want to add it and under which name. On a positive answer, the new language will be added to the INI file.

Run "Start detecting language" again to verify that language detection is operational on your machine.

How to contribute to the project

If the language of your machine was not initially recognized by PickLang, that you have asked it to be added to the INI file and that the detection test has worked, just send the LANGUAGE.INI file to the author for inclusion in the global list.

If you have any problem, and particularly if the detection does not work after you have added the new language, please contact the author with all the particulars about your set-up.

And keep checking the ABC project pages for updates.
