Welcome to the world of MI colors
This chapter on colors covers several aspects that I have found useful in dealing with colors while working with MapInfo. It draws on two previous attempts to explore the field, ColorFun.zip has been available on a site or the other since 1997, and the chapter "Managing colors" part of "My (MI) Bag o'Tricks" for more than 3 years. I have added more material and information since then.
It comes under the form of a main html page "Colors and MapInfo" and a major appendix page "Color Models for MI". Both pages exist also in a PDF format within a single archive file (download Colors_pdf_files.zip).
Several demo tables and simple applications are regrouped in a zip file (download Nu_ColorFun.zip) that contains
Colors512.zip | a wor and 6 tables displaying 512 different colors in the same mapper |
Color_names.zip | a wor and 2 mappers made of 3 tables each with colors with names and definition as in the original file |
Rgb2r_g_b.mbx | a demo translator from RGB code to R, G, B components |
tru_pal.mbx | prints the color palette that MI is truly using. Run it and simply locate the MapInfoW.CLR file. |
Colvar.zip | colvar01.mbx and sample table of color variations around a central value |
An application to help creating color palette file for MI is offered in the Beta testing section of this site (or download col_pal_makr.zip from here)
References to colors on the web are numerous. I do not intend to crowd the space with some of the results of a very rapid search. The most significant items are referred to in the text directly. Access to the utilities used or presented are also in the text.
As I do it every time I place something new on the web, I will call on you to contact me if you find any errors or blatant gaps. And also if you have some ideas on what could be added or developed. I make that call and I hope that I will have more success that in the past to get you participate at my undertakings that are for your benefit to all. Thank you in advance.
