EDINBURGH, UK, 12th September 2006: Following the news last week that Adobe are discontinuing support for their SVG Viewer next year, GeoWise have accelerated their commitment to adopt the Macromedia Flash Plug-in into the forthcoming Version 4 upgrade to their award-winning InstantAtlas™ software due for release late November 2006.

In a letter to all existing clients yesterday, Geowise’s Managing Director Mike Forster wrote: “We have been expecting this announcement ever since Adobe bought Macromedia, the company behind the Flash plug-in, last year. For this reason GeoWise has designed InstantAtlas version 4 to be independent of SVG to give you greater flexibility in choosing the most suitable output format for your audience.”

Existing clients with active maintenance and support contracts for InstantAtlas v3 will be able to upgrade the software components they previously purchased to version 4 free of charge.

The company is not abandoning the SVG viewer which gained wide acceptance in its data visualization software with central and local government and healthcare clients in the UK and worldwide.

Technical Director at GeoWise, Jon Peltenburg adds: “Version 4 is designed to provide users with more flexibility and be easy to use. It includes many new features that clients have asked for and a few others that we think clients will find useful.”

In the forthcoming release, the software offers Flash versions of the Single Map, Double Map and Area Profile Templates. InstantAtlas version 4 will also offer improved SVG Templates that can be viewed using the Adobe SVG Viewer in Internet Explorer and viewed without a plug-in within the Firefox Internet browser. Early in 2007, the company plan to follow with support of HTML/SVG hybrid Templates.
