Système géodésique
Un système géodésique est une modélisation de la Terre afin d'exprimer des coordonnées géographiques.
Au strict minimum il comporte :
- Un ellipsoïde de révolution muni d'un méridien origine
Pour l'utilisation de coordonnées planes ou 3D, on y ajoute souvent :
- Une Projections cartographiques plane
Chacun des ces éléments ne forme qu'une partie d'un système géodésique. Les deux premiers éléments sont obligatoires pour former le tout. Un ellipsoïde ou une projection seuls ne peuvent donc caractériser un système géodésique1).
Note
La traduction anglaise est datum. Et comme le rappelle L'Office québécois de la langue française c'est un terme étranger à la langue française mais à connaitre lorsqu'on utilise des logiciels en langue anglaise.
