Géoïde: Surface équipotentielle du champ de pesanteur proche du niveau moyen des mers.
Ce n'est pas une surface géométrique simple.
Dans les zones maritimes, cette surface se situe sous le niveau de la mer, dans les zones terrestres, elle se situe plus haut que la surface des mers prolongée.
