GPS avec PDA intégré
Utilisation type
Ces GPS sont de petits ordinateurs portable, intégrant de multiples fonction multimédia ou bureautique, comme la suite Office mobile (word, excel,..), installée sur Windows Mobile.
De ce fait, il est possible d'y installer également des applications SIG pour traiter la donnée sur le terrain et afficher des fonds raster tels le SCAN25 IGN ou la BD Ortho.

GPS de randonnée
Utilisation type
Pour vos loisirs, notamment pour la randonnée, il peut être intéressant d'acheter des GPS “légers”, avec affichage LCD monochrome. Pour de petits budgets et des études sur de grandes étendues qui demande peu de précision, c'est une solution correcte, pour peu qu'on n'ai pas trop d'exigence de précision.

Utilisation type
Pour le voyage, les GPS de voiture consistent une solution idéale, avec de grands écrans et une voix de guidage, la précision métrique n'étant pas une priorité. Ca constitue la gamme grand public des GPS de voiture, qu'on trouve dans le commerce. Cependant, notamment dans le cas d'applications embarquées, il peut être nécessaire de regarder d'autres gammes plus professionnelles.

GPS Haut de gamme
Utilisation type
Les GPS haut de gamme sont le nec plus ultra des GPS, mais nécessitent de s'y connaître un peu pour ne pas s'égarer. Incassables (certains diront qu'on peut jouer au football avec), robuste, étanches, précis, mais souvent très peu conviviaux, et surtout très chers, ils n'en restent pas moins des produits indispensable pour les professionnels topographes notamment.
